Last weekend this family of “city-slickers” (as Grandpa Dave likes to call us) made the drive to Orange County to check out our first OC Fair. What a hit! Ethan absolutely LOVED the fair — The food, the rides, the animals!
At lunch, while there was no shortage of odd and artery-clogging eats, Ethan decided to surprise us with a request for frog legs. Really? Frog legs? Yes, really. So I decidedly put aside my squeamish and picky disposition and thought, “If my 5-year-old is willing to have an open mind, why not I?” (And yes, they really do taste like chicken.)
Max instead favored the live animals at the fair. In fact, he decided it was his job to give each and every animal at the petting zoo a solid hug…(ahem, chokehold?). Witnesses around us were amused by his determination to methodically hug each animal one by one as he made his way down the line. A few declared Max was a natural with the animals and destined to be a veterinarian! Dr. Danker? I like the sound of that. [See video below]
While Max was too little for the fair rides, he did enjoy the chocolate covered bacon and deep-fried Oreos that he shared with Ethan. I think he’ll really be into it next summer when he can go on some of the carnival rides with his big brother. Ethan could have ridden the rides all afternoon…his favorites were the gigantic slide, the pirate plank and kiddie bumper cars.
Thankfully we have several more years before he’s behind the wheel of an actual vehicle…he barely moved 5 feet in his bumper car and basically spent the majority of his session stuck in a corner! [See the recap below] Hmmm….kind of reminds me of LA traffic.
