Max was essentially named by his older brother and here is the tale of “Taco Max.”

Before we even knew we were having a boy, I picked Ethan up from preschool only to have one of the teachers tell me, “I didn’t know you’ve already picked out a name for the baby….” Her grin told me this was going to be good.

Ethan had declared that his baby brother’s name was Taco Max. No rationale could be determined. Did he have tacos for lunch that day? Did he hear someone speak of Taco Bell? Go figure. It was funny, but I had no idea it was going to stick.

When we went in for our 20 week ultrasound and found out we were indeed having a boy, Ethan said, “Mom, I TOLD you I was having a brother!” Somehow, he just knew.

And still, Taco Max remained the name of my baby bump for the remaining 19 weeks of pregnancy. The name was so popular at Ethan’s preschool that his friends’ parents asked me how Taco Max was treating me inside my belly. Seriously.

The story circulated among friends and family, and we soon grew to love and adopt the nickname for our little budding baby. We decided upon Maxwell Thomas in lieu of Taco Max, but yet the name still lives on. Ethan refers to his brother as Taco Max whenever someone new asks his name….as do the teachers and students at Ethan’s school.

Poor Max….he was born into this nickname that he will probably never fully appreciate since we still have no idea what made Ethan so focused on Mexican cuisine that day 🙂
